Carmen Clarkin

Director of Initiatives


Carmen Clarkin is Justice 4 Housing’s Far From Home Campaign Director and Director of Operations. She has a background in political science and psychology as well as her master’s in public health from Yale University. As someone deeply rooted in activism, with extensive experience working in the community, Carmen has worked to address issues of systemic racism in medicine and police violence and contributed to national efforts to end voter suppression. She has worked as a counselor and educator while also contributing to policy research at the state level to help high-risk populations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 she was part of the legislative team that passed a bill making housing a right in the state of Connecticut. Passionate about promoting health equity for those in marginalized and underrepresented communities, Carmen’s research orientation focuses on critically examining the parts of history, politics, and our own ingrained biases that perpetuate inequality.
