Michael Ducoing

SHARP Cohort 2

Michael Ducoing’s journey is a testament to resilience, transformation, and the power of support. Growing up in the Old Colony projects of South Boston, Michael faced adversity from a young age, experiencing his first arrest at just 13 and serving 26 years in prison. After his release, Michael returned to a world where he had no place to call home and few resources to start anew.

Despite his initial doubts about seeking help, Michael got connected with Justice 4 Housing. Michael attended classes, completed the necessary paperwork, and was eventually awarded a housing voucher. With the dedicated help of Justice 4 Housing staff and realtor Liana Williams, he found a safe and stable apartment that became the foundation for rebuilding his life.

The stability of housing allowed Michael to focus on his goals, and with hard work and determination, he secured meaningful employment. His success in the workforce eventually meant he was able to sustain himself independently, surpassing the income limits for his voucher—a remarkable milestone that speaks to his commitment and perseverance.

Over the past two years, Michael has continued to move forward, now actively working toward becoming our first homeowner. Justice 4 Housing has remained by his side throughout the journey, connecting him with the Boston Housing Authority and financial institutions for pre-approval. Michael’s story stands as a powerful example of what’s possible with second chances, a supportive community, and the determination to build a brighter future.
