Housing Application Tips

  • Apply to as many lists as possible! Each housing authority has a different process and a different waiting period. the more lists you are on, the sooner your name will be pulled.
  • If you are unsure if you are eligible for a housing opportunity or for certain priorities or preferences, call your local housing authority and ask!
  • Update your applications every three months or any time your information changes – whichever is sooner! This prevents delays later on.
  • Check on your application status online frequently – housing authorities mostly communicate by mail, and documents can get lost or not show up in time for a response.
  • Not sure if you applied? Submit an application again! If an application already exists, the program will update that application with your new information.
  • Keep track of your login information. Only use an email you know you can access easily. Most programs are going to ask you to submit paperwork virtually for faster processing.
  • Download and print this tracker to keep all of your information organized in one place!
