Miriam Conrad has been a criminal defense lawyer for more than 30 years. She served as the Federal Public Defender for the Districts of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Starting from 2007 until her retirement in 2022. After joining that office as an Assistant Federal Public Defender in 1992, she spent 30 years representing indigent clients at trial and on appeal. She now represents indigent defendants in federal appeals, as a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Ms. Conrad also represents incarcerated persons before the Massachusetts Parole Board, through the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS). She began her career in criminal defense as a trial lawyer at CPCS, the Massachusetts state public defender’s office, after clerking for Hon. Rya W. Zobel in the federal district court in Boston. She is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She graduated from Northwestern University and Harvard Law School.
