New Proposed HUD Rules

The Public Notice and Comment period for the new proposed HUD rules is open through June 10th.

Justice 4 Housing wrote the "Far From Home Report" to dismantle punitive Public Housing Policies that were implemented during the administration of President Clinton. These policies disproportionately affected and resulted in the destabilization of black communities and the separation of families. At that time, we came up with 12 policy recommendations. That being said, we are excited to learn that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s new proposed rules "Reducing Barriers to HUD-Assisted Housing" mirror our Far from Home Policy Recommendations.

Our system change work is breaking down barriers!

Before these proposed rules become official, they must go through a Public Notice and Comment Period, allowing people to share their thoughts and stories. The Comment period is open through June 10th. Justice 4 Housing will be submitting comments, supporting HUD but also suggesting areas for further improvement. Our call to action is for those in our community to also write in, contributing their stories and experiences that exemplifies why these proposed rules are so important.
